Beef with Saban Brands

Posted on 19:31 by Unknown
Some of the following is not my own opinion but I see as a consensus amongst the majority of fans.

When Disney took over Power Rangers, many older fans (mainly us) did not like what they were doing with the franchise, namely the storylines, explosions, etc. (Me on the other hand had no real problem with the Disney Era, maybe some nitpicks here and there but nothing major) Most fans compared anything new to the 'Saban Era' (MMPR to Time Force or Wild Force, however fans view it). Most beef fans had was directed to the new showrunners (Bruce Kalish, etc.). When Disney let it go, fans were disappointed it was ending. When they heard Saban was taking it over again, fans were elated. Slowly but surely fans started complaining about the quality of Power Rangers Samurai. Because Saban Brands created Power Force to hear feedback from fans, I decided to lay out all the grudges fans have now in case they didn't know about it.

Here is a (long) list of what beefs some fans (if not all) have with Saban Brands:
Power Rangers Samurai quality
I have covered this before that fans did not like that Samurai took most of its plotlines from Shinkenger. Many fans considered it 'cut and paste' Shinkenger, just being translated. I have countered that Shinkenger had Kuroko and did not have Bulk, Spike, Mega modes and Shogun modes but fans who dislike the two seasons say that is just merely aesthetic changes. Another complaint is acting. While Power Rangers acting is notorious for not being up to par, the Samurai actors have gotten more clout. Probably because there was almost no acting complaints about the RPM cast (I might be incorrect). Some excuses pass but 'wooden actor' has been used more than ten times. Daniel Ewing (Dillon/RPM) has come to the defense of the Jungle Fury actors who have also been blamed for bad acting and he said that it has to do with the writing. So maybe that was the case, I don't know. Also some fans didn't like the Mega and Shogun modes, seeing they didn't make sense to have armor INSIDE the zords instead of outside. (Also yeah I know, people said they were made to sell toys but that could be the complaint for Power Rangers all together)

 Nickelodeon
Fans are most upset at Nickeldeon. That there is only 20 episodes each season. Under Saban and Fox back when, we had as little 40 episodes but under Disney, we got as low as 32 episodes. Collectively Samurai and Super Samurai had 44 episodes and one special but it was in the course of two years. I am a teacher and kids have told me that they hate repeats. Older fans also like the big breaks of repeats. We wish it was 40 episode per year or even more. The explanation SB has given for the 2 year themes is to grow the brand and get the same theme internationally but so far they are still off by months. France just recently got Megaforce. And fans were REALLY upset when the last batch of Super Samurai episodes aired first in Nickelodeon Latin America, months before they did in the United States. Also fans are upset at the lack of promotion on Nickelodeon and also delays in NickToons (old seasons were to start in fall of 2010 but didn't happen until mid 2011).

SPOILERS AHEAD HIGHLIGHT TO READ
Former Actors getting little to no pay
Here is the generic e-mail sent to most of the former actors, thanks to FuryDiamond of RangerCrew:
http://blog.samuraicast.com/power-rangers-super-megaforce-cameo-invitation/

The press release that came to light last June for the Licensing Fair spotlighted cameos but in the generic e-mail, it says that they were not planning cameos. Could it be that the cameos was a last minute edition after finding it out through Gokaiger? Because I believe that before Gokaiger, SB was just planning to make Goseiger two seasons and have their Ultra Mode be the second season called "Ultra Megaforce" as they copyrighted that title (they also copyrighted Super Megaforce). But ultimately they chose to squeeze Gosieger for season one and Gokaiger for season two (calling it Super Megaforce). Anyway, recent news from former actors is that they are not being offered a lot in terms of money and only for a small cameo.

And with Rhett Fisher (Ryan) being invited and then dis-invited, some fans are upset. People really want the Titanium Ranger because he is the first American-made Ranger that was not from Sentai. And fans consider that enough to distinguish between Power Rangers and Super Sentai. In a way, it acknowledges Power Rangers more as it is more original than the actual borrowed footage. Also with the possible news that only the Gokaiger Ranger Keys and changes are being used are only for Super Megaforce. So that means Titanium Ranger might not grace Power Rangers Super Megaforce. So why do fans care about how much former actors getting paid? Because we want to see them and not hear about the budget matters. It shouldn't matter.  Also I feel bad for the actors, who didn't get much money when they were on the show and even less now. If Saban wanted to make us happy, it wasn't that hard but not so simple either but I have 3 things: 1. Guest spots and cameos just like in Gokaiger from former actors 2. References to former seasons 3. Original footage, not relying so much on the Japanese footage (like the Goseiger cards)

The Little Things
  • The Ranger teens having the same outfits over and over. It wouldn't be so noticeable if they weren't high school students.
  • Goseiger cards being seen with Goseiger names and not Megaforce names (I mean, they shot footage of Mega mode and Shogun modes but they couldn't reshoot a couple cards?)
  • The same MMPR song being butchered for Samurai and Megaforce. Get a new song already.
  • The rhyming motto: Samurai: Rangers Together, Samurai Forever and Megaforce: Earth defenders never surrender (which hasn't been used a lot in Megaforce so a good).
  • Ryuuranger form Dairanger spotted in Troy's Legend War dream.
  • Ranger Keys in the headquarters of Megaforce not being all that accurate and repeated twice to fill in.
  • No city name for Samurai (it has been seen on the show but not mentioned in dialogue).
  • No last names for Samurai (even though the websites have the last names of Megaforce, they are still not been mentioned on the show.)
  • Also there are a couple things happening within Power Force that I probably shouldn't mention (I'm mostly afraid of how my fellow Power Force members would react than Saban Brands' reaction).
I mean, if Saban Brands really wanted to celebrate the 20th anniversary, why be such a cheapsake (even though he is notrious for cutting corners), why not invest a little more money on the quality of the show. In this day and age of screencapturing and tweeting (and since they encourage tweeting), why not make sure there is no slip ups (like Ryuuranger in Troy's Legend War dreams or the faulty repeated Ranger Keys in the headquarters)? I digress. I am sure there are more complaints, so feel free to comment on them on this post.

SPOILERS: Super Megaforce #6

Posted on 20:08 by Unknown
UPDATED 5/4/13 6 PM EST
Updated with Samurai cast news
This week we are getting some more pictures of Super Megaforce shooting and it gives more head scratchers and jumping speculations.

Andros' robe:

Gokaiger body-switching monster (Ep 27) spotted with Gokai Blue:
 http://instagram.com/p/Yoa5czSsWJ/

Oh just shooting inside a studio against  agreen screen, just humdrum. La La. But... Look, oh is that the... uh.. the crow's nest of the Gokai Galleon or Red (Ship) Zord. Fellow Power Force member Mr. Yellow found this.

Monsters already confirmed:
Regaeru from Gokaiger Episode 27 (Body-switching monster)

Gokaiger monster Daiyaru Episode 29 (Abaranger tribute)

Gokaiger monster Arumadon Episode 17 (Silver Ranger debut)

More rumored cameos:
- Cameron Jebo (Silver PRSM) was seen contacting Emma Lahana (Kira/Yellow Dino Thunder) on Facebook or Twitter with some comradery. Hector David Jr is also seen tweeting with her but that could be they met at a convention or something.
- Samuel Benta (Will/Operation Overdrive) alluded to being asked to come back.
- Saban Brands asked fans to find Austin St. John to contact them.
- Jason Faunt (Wes/Time Force) hinted he might be heading to New Zealand but no details.
- Steven Cardenas (Rocky/MMPR) reportedly declined a small cameo appearance because the pay wasn't enough to excuse for being away from work (his own gym/dojo).
- Rhett Fisher (Titanium Ranger) Tweeted: "Guess who was invited to do a cameo on PR Megaforce and then un-invited the next week because of budget restrictions."
OFFICIAL:
Najee De-Tiege confirms that he and the rest of the cast (not confirmed that Steven Skyler will come back as of yet) will return to New Zealand. My guess is that they are shooting a Megaforce-Samurai teamup. My hopes is that it will be set in Season 1 and not Season 2 so we can have the Goseiger vs. Shinkenger footage where Gold gets super mode and all the six Rangers are in super mode and Gedou Shinken Red (Dark Red Ranger).

SPOILERS: Super Megaforce #5

Posted on 15:23 by Unknown
If you follow the blogs, twitter and Rangerboard, then these are probably old for you. This is mostly about the new Silver Ranger and rumors on cameos.

Click on 'Click here' on the left to see the pictures.

UPDATED 4/29/13

Regaeru from Gokaiger

Cameron Jebo above has been seen on set with Christina Masterson. FuryDiamond of MegaforceCast had been told that Cameron was indeed the new Silver Ranger (footage from Gokai Silver). Cameron denied this on Twitter but that could had been part of his contract. For more on Cameron Jebo, check MorphinLegacy:
http://morphinlegacy.com/2013/04/cameron-jebo-cast-as-silver-ranger.html#more-13899

Here is a picture of his headshot.

Here are random pictures on the set:
 Megaforce Rangers in Ultra Mode.

In the background, the actor in what looks like a Metal Alice costume. On the left looks like the framework of Tensou the robot.

Now here are rumors, speculations, and spoilers on possible cameos and guest spots:

 Roger Velasco
Roger Velasco (Carlos, Turbo Green/Space Black) updated his status on Facebook on Sunday saying "Black is back! It's where it's at." Fans thought it would be mean he would return as Black Space Ranger in Super Megaforce. Sources tell Jay of Morphin Legacy that Roger’s update was actually in relation to a rumored appearance at Power Morphicon 4.
Likelihood: 20% for now, possible for future

Christopher K Lee
Jay from Morphin Legacy (Happy Birthday BTW) thinks what Roger Velasco posted set the Ranger Nation (Saban Brands name) 'a flutter' but I think it was this picture. It is Christopher Lee (Andros) with an ACG Space Red Ranger card. People assumed this meant he would be returning but there is no evidence or confirmation on this.
Likelihood: 20% for now, possible for the future

 Alex Heartman
Alex Heartman on the Super Megaforce set recently and it had been said he was on there a couple weeks ago. I think Alex did a cameo spot for Super Megaforce for a Samurai tribute.
Likelihood: 98%, for sure

Hector David Jr.
A few days ago Hector David Jr. said "New Zealand... Nuff Said." so this could mean he was flying to new Zealand to visit or be on the show. We don't know. This is all speculation. My theory with seeing the Ultra Mode suits and both Alex and Hector, (we do need confirmation on the other four Rangers) that MAYBE they are filming a Megaforce-Samurai teamup special. Often specials are shot out of order.

On Facebook, HDJ posted this.
Likelihood: 70-80%, very possible

 Blake Foster
Blake Foster got a Twitter account a month ago and has been getting in shape or how he says it (#Spandexshape), now he says "New Zealand??? What? Here I come" and he also did another tweeted "Once a ranger... ALWAYS a ranger" . I think it is true but I have been wrong a lot. But it is hard to say what is true or not. Even though it was April's Fools, people (including me) believed it that Alison Macinnis (Dana/Lightspeed) was going to New Zealand but it was a prank.
Likelihood: 50%, possible

If Lavender Ranger adapted Gokaiger into Super Megaforce

Posted on 20:21 by Unknown
UPDATED 3/27/13
Because of new revelations, I decided to make a new post
http://henshingrid.blogspot.com/2013/03/2-spoilers-adapting-gokaiger-into-super.html
THE FOLLOWING ARE LAVENDER RANGER'S OPINIONS, TAKE WITH GRAIN OF SALT
I personally know nothing about Super Megaforce, the second season of Megaforce other than Gokaiger footage being used, GokaiSilver being the Sixth Ranger, GokaiOh and other robos being used and the main villains from Gokaiger being related to Vrak. But this is my own personal opinion to what should be done and/or what I would like. I know most likely this won't be done as the second season already started shooting this week (I think).

So there will only be 20 episodes like Megaforce and 2 specials. Maybe Megaforce will have a teamup special with Samurai in between seasons. Also I am going with the assumption that Gokaiger suits will be used even though FuryDiamond says his source says the same suits of Megaforce will be used. This post includes Gokaiger spoilers, so if you never seen Gokaiger, beware. I also had to skip some tribute episodes (Jungle Fury, Operation Overdrive, In Space, etc.) in order to fill a story point. I will use Power Ranger terms instead of Super Sentai terms for the most part.

SPECULATION
Episode 1
Gokaiger Episode: 1
Usable Footage: GokaiOh has been to seen in some trailers of Megaforce so pretty sure it will appear. Anyway, Gokaiger's first episode's useable footage is the Legend War, the 'Megazord' zipping around against the armada of villains and then the Rangers transforming and then changing to Mystic Force and Samurai.
My Explanation: So the Legend War or whatever they will call it (Mega Battle?) will be first and then  Gosei will give the five rangers new powers as they gave up their own with the other Rangers. I would switch Jake to Blue and Noah to Green. Explanation? When MMPR went to Zeo, Zordon said something changed with the sub crystals, so Gosei can say because the big battle, they had to change things. Why the switch? Gokai Green is the brainy one and Gokai Blue is more stalwart fighter, which is better for Jake.

Episode 2
Gokaiger Episode: 3
Usable Footage: Episode 2 of Gokaiger is more of a filler so Episode 3 can be used, when they receive the 'Mystic Dragon' or whatever they will call the dragon. So usuable footage is the Blue, Pink and Yellow Ranger becoming Black Dino Ranger, RPM Ranger Black and Black Aquitar Ranger. Then they fight the monster as Mystic Rangers and get the dragon.
My Explanation: Since Blue, Pink and Yellow transform into White Rangers but two of them are Sentai, they can always transform into White Wild Force Ranger, White Rhino Ranger and White Aquitar Ranger. They can have a former Mystic Force Ranger guest star, whoever they can get since they live in Australia and New Zealand. I think one or two are in America.

Episode 3
Gokaiger Episode: 5
Usable Footage: The Rangers transform into RPM Rangers without Red and then with Red, SPD Rangers and get a SPD zord.
My Explanation: The Rangers also become Dairanger, which was never PR so they can always reshoot that with another team. The guest in the ep is Doggie Cruger, they can always have PR version or another SPD actor. Red and Yellow are in the US and the majority of the others are in Canada. I totally forgot that plot wise, SPD was set in the future, said 2025. In Operation Overdrive, when Sentinel Knight brought Bridge, the Red Ranger to 2007---they mentioned the future but not why he selected him. My own storyline would be that the SPD team was brought in for the big war and when they give up their powers, they became stuck in present time (whenever it might be, 2013 or 2014). So the Super Megaforce Rangers don't have to go to the future.

Episode 4
Gokaiger Episode: 9
Usable Footage: Episode 8 and 10 of Gokaiger are fillers. The Rangers find Anamirum and transform into two non-PR teams so they can always reshoot that. They later gain the Red Lion Zord and use it on their Megazord. I skipped Episode 7 of Gokaiger which has Jungle Fury in order to fulfill a plot point (Basco), save time and because JF has no actual new zord. But they can skip any other (Turbo, Lightspeed, etc.).
My Explanation: Pretty straightforward. Rick Medina (Cole) said kids might be confused if he returned as Cole if they know him as Deker. SB will have to pay a bill to ship one of the WF cast unlike Jungle Fury, Mystic Force and SPD.

Episode 5
Gokaiger Episodes: 11 and 12
Usable Footage: I squeeze those two episodes because to make more space for other episodes. In these two episodes they become MMPR and Lost Galaxy. Then the others without Blue transform into random Rangers, so they can reshoot the non-PR ones. They become Samurai Rangers and  then gain Samurai mode of their Lion/Megazord. In this episode, they meet the character who most likely will become Vrak's brother.
My Explanation: In this ep, they used the female Red Ranger but Australian native Kimberely Crossman (Lauren) is in the US so regardless they have to ship a Samurai Ranger over.

Episode 6
Gokaiger Episode: 14
Usable Footage: 13 is another filler, 14 is a Turbo tribute. They transform into MMPR and Turbo Rangers (our turbo, they do transform into Sentai's Turbo Rangers but that can't be used). There is no Megazord battle.
My Explanation: Most people want Justin back, but it is up to them and who can do it. This is still kinda filler-y so SB can always add some villain stuff from past or future episodes that were skipped.

Episode 7
Gokaiger Episodes: 15 and 16
Usable Footage/My Explanation: This episode introduces Basco, but who knows if they will use him. The footage has the 15 'Sixth' Rangers fighting the Gokaiger and then de-morphed humans. So if they do just use Goseiger suits, they have to reshoot anyway.

Episode 8
Gokaiger Episodes: 17 and 18
Usable Footage/My Explanation: Silver Ranger debut. Hopefully they already casted him now. If they use the Goseiger suits instead of Gokaiger, they would have to reshoot scenes with GokaiSilver, like White Ranger (of Dairanger footage) with the MMPR. Episode 18 shows off his zord. He has the MMPR, Time Force and Dino Thunder powers.

CLICK BELOW TO LEFT TO READ MORE

Episode 9
Gokaiger Episode: 19 & 20
Usable Footage: In Episode 19, Silver gains armor. Lots of Gokai Green in this one, so if they do not use him, they'd have to reshoot a lot of this. Episode 20 is the Lost Galaxy Episode. Basco uses Magna Defender, Wolf Warrior, Shadow Ranger and White Mystic Rangers against the Rangers. The five transform into the Lost Galaxy Rangers.
My Explanation: They can bring back Leo and Mike or anyone else. I squeezed these two episodes (19 and 20) together to save time.

Episode 10
Gokaiger Episode: 23
Usable Footage: Lightspeed Rescue Episode. Pink and Yellow become Mystic Force and a non-PR team. Five Rangers become Lightspeed Rescue. If they do use Titanium Ranger, they can reshoot that. Episode 22 was a filler. Episode 21 (Operation Overdrive) to fulfill a plot point (Basco stealing powers) but they could skip PRLR if they can't get any of those actors at that time.
My Explanation: They can bring back Dana of PRLR or whoever else.

Episode 11
Gokaiger Episode: 25 and 26
Usable Footage/My Explanation: Ninja Storm Episode. Red, Blue and Yellow become Dino Thunder and a non-PR team. In the footage, the Hurricanger return and transform and fight along side the Gokaiger. But if they can't get all 3 Ninja Storm Wind Rangers, then they can't use the footage. The Rangers also receive a new zord. Episode 24 was a filler.

Episode 12
Gokaiger Episodes: 31 and 32
Usable Footage/My Explanation: Lots of usable footage here as the Rangers have to fight the Extra Heroes that Basco has. Also, they could use the cannon from episode 32 in here to save time. This is a Zeo episode as the five become Zeo Rangers. The Gokaiger episode had OhRed and OhPink, which would mean Tommy and Kat but most fans want Tommy back for MMPR. "Basco" villain has stolen 3 greater powers but they are non-PR, in order to save time, they can say they are In Space, Jungle Fury and Operation Overdrive or whichever teams they are unable to locate.

Episode 13
Gokaiger Episodes: 35 and 36
Usable Footage/My Explanation: Episode 33 was a Dairanger episode (non PR) and 34 was a filler of sorts. These two episodes are the RPM episodes. They could use Scott (Eka Darville) who had to be a fake name for his voiceover in the Samurai teamup. In the forage, they become SPD but also non PR teams so they can skip that. They become RPM and use a new zord. My take would be them going to the dimension where Venjix took over.

Episode 14
Gokaiger Episodes: 37 and 38
Usable Footage/Explanation: They mix in the showdown between the main villain and the Rangers and their own Greater Power. I hated to skip the 'In Space' episode but this is just an example, the 'Basco' character can steal other powers and we could have an In Space episode. Blue can also destroy the 'Sid' cyborg character. They destroy SPOILER Vrax's brother.

Episode 15
Gokaiger Episode: 40
Usable Footage/Explanation: Time Force episode. The Gokaiger traveled back and rescues a temple from Metal Alice and inadvertently leads to rescuing "Ninjor." I'm sure people will want Wes and Jen back for this one.

Episode 16
Gokaiger Episode: 45 and 46
Usable Footage/Explanation: Ninjor can come back and give them the Aquitar Rangers Greater Power. Why is Ninjor connected to the Aquitar Rangers? Well, in the Alien Ranger saga I watched again---they did say that Ninjor gave them their powers long ago. And this could explain what happened to Ninjor after a long time. Maybe Master Vile trapped him in a jar.

Episode 17
Gokaiger Episodes: 42 and 43
Usable Footage/Explanation: These episodes are Green-centric and they defeat the red villain 'Damaras.' Also Basco tells them they have 2 other powers.. Let's say for the case of this speculation, Basco steals the Aquitar powers and also gets the first Megaforce powers (Goseiger, if separate) so that makes five powers he stole (Jungle Fury, Operation Overdrive, In Space, Aquitar and Megaforce). It doesn't have to be those. It could also be Lightspeed Rescue, Turbo, Lost Galaxy, and Zeo if they can't find actors for those because those don't have zords.

Episode 18
Gokaiger Episodes: 47, 48 and 49
Usable Footage/Explanation: The final battle to defeat 'Basco' and get the Greater Powers that he stole. Preferably five in order to do the part where they get approval from one member of each team. In Gokaiger, they got approval from Flashman, Changeman, Sun Vulcan, Maskman and Fiveman. They each transformed into one of each team. Pink became Green Flash, Green became Change Griffon, Red became VulEagle, Blue became Blue Mask and Yellow became Five Yellow.

So in this situation, they can transform into one of Jungle Fury, Operation Overdrive, In Space, Aquitar and Megaforce. But like I said before, it doesn't have to be those teams. It could also be Lightspeed Rescue, Turbo, Lost Galaxy, and Zeo if they can't find actors for those because those don't have zords. So in my fantasy, Pink can be Pink Overdrive Ranger, Green can be Black Aquitar Ranger, Red can be Red Space Ranger, Blue can be Blue Jaguar Ranger (Jungle Fury), and Yellow can be the Yellow Megaforce Ranger. Or if using Operation Overdrive, Lightspeed Rescue, Turbo, Lost Galaxy and Jungle Fury; it could be Red Overdrive Ranger, Pink Lightspeed, Blue Turbo, Green Lost Galaxy and Yellow Cheetah Ranger. And then they could get those actors like Rose (Rhoda Montemayor), Corcus (Alan Palmer), Andros (Christopher Lee), Robo Knight, and Theo (Aljin Abella) to appear and approve of them. Also in Episode 49, they defeat the green villainess.
Episode 19
Gokaiger Episode: 50
Usable Footage/Explanation: The Rangers go against the whole army. Mammoth Ranger (MMPR Black) shows up. So we can have one of the MMPR actors in this one. Silver becomes Green MMPR Ranger and gives his shield to the Red Ranger to defeat villains. There is the whole 'Greatest Treasure in the Universe' thing that can grant a wish but the Rangers will no longer exist but who knows if they will use that.

Episode 20
Gokaiger Episode: 51
Usable Footage/Explanation: The Rangers decide not to the use the treasure and defeat the bad guys on their own. The Rangers use powerups in this episode (Shark Mode Red Samurai Ranger, Super Megaforce Blue, Yellow Cheetah Ranger Master Mode, Green Ranger SWAT Mode, Legend Mystic Pink, and Silver Gold Mode). They also transform into 1 of all 35 teams in Sentai, which they could reshoot or use parts of.

Halloween Special
The monster from Gokaiger Episode 33 looks ghoulish and they can use him for a Halloween special and use it as a clip show because the episode is more of a Dairanger tribute so they can reshoot battle sequences or not use it.

Christmas Special
Gokaiger Episode 44 can obviously be used for the Christmas special. It is where the Silver Ranger becomes a 'Christmas' Ranger. In the ep, all of them become Yellow Rangers which they can also use. Most likely SB will use this as a clip show like the Samurai specials.
So that is my take. It doesn't necessarily have to be this way and for sure will not be like this. If it was ideal, I would had done 36 episodes or more. But oh well. I also hate that I skipped episodes that would have Rangers becoming one color all which will probably only be the red ones in this adaption but what can be done?
